About Us

Our mission begins with a story.

Jessica was a 43-year-old mother of two. Her own education had been limited, and after years of working in low-income jobs, she finally made the decision to get a college degree in Health Services. She wanted a better life not only for herself, but also for her children. She enrolled in classes at a community college, determined to succeed.

Unfortunately, Jessica never finished her class, and she didn’t get her degree. Why? It certainly wasn’t because she didn’t try. Jessica couldn’t complete her classwork because she had never learned to read.

The average adult in the United States reads at approximately a 10th grade level. Unfortunately, the problem of illiteracy all too often goes unnoticed. Too many women continue to fall into poverty, drugs, alcoholism and prostitution as a result of a low education level.

We believe that the battle against womens’ illiteracy can be won. Can She Read? is a program designed to empower girls in their teens through literacy and knowledge.

Will you help us help them? Contact us to find out how you can help.

Sincerely,
